Founded in 1993 by poet, journalist and former Member of Parliament, Pritish Nandy, with a paid-up capital of ₹40,000, PNC is a professionally managed company. In 2000, it became one of the first Indian media and entertainment companies to be listed on the BSE and NSE. The Company has won many awards for its management as well as its creative excellence including an International Emmy nomination.

Pritish Nandy received the Padma Shri, the EM Forster Literary Award, the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award, the International Association Award from the Humane Society of the United States, the Friends of Liberation War Honour from Bangladesh, and 100's of award nominations for the films PNC has produced, from all over the world.
