The Royals trends on Netflix’s Global Top 10
May 16, 2025

The Royals, a Pritish Nandy Communications production which was globally released by Netflix last Friday May 9 has stormed into number #3 in the Global Top 10 Non-English Shows with over 3 million views across 43 countries, within days of its release according to a statement issued by Netflix.

Created by Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy, The Royals features actors Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter, along with a powerhouse ensemble cast led by Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Chunky Pandey, Vihaan Samat, Sumukhi Suresh, Lisa Mishra, Kavya Trehan, Luke Kenny and others. The series is directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana and written by Neha Veena Sharma, with dialogues by Annukampa Harsh.

Ishaan Khatter, who has garnered praise and touted a breakout star for his portrayal of Prince Aviraaj, said, “I’m thrilled about the show being binged around the world. It’s been only a few days since release and I’ve been on the receiving end of overwhelming love from all over. The Royals is a fun show with something for everyone; but also deceptively layered with drama and I’m so glad people are seeing and appreciating all that I wanted to bring to Aviraaj as a character. The fact that it’s high up on the Global Non-English Top 10 is a delight and I hope more people keep discovering it in the coming days!”

Bhumi Pednekar, who has garnered praise for her fashion and style in the show, said, “What I love about Sophia is that she’s not chasing a fairy tale—she’s building her own story. She’s sharp, independent, and not someone who’s easily swept off her feet. But even she doesn’t expect the kind of connection that sneaks up on her. I think that emotional undercurrent—of two very different people trying to meet each other halfway—is what’s really resonating with audiences. The romance isn’t just about big gestures, it’s about vulnerability, timing, and all those little moments in between. That’s what’s making people root for her and Aviraj-Sophia as a couple!”

Zeenat Aman, who has made a royal return as Maji, said, "When I read the script, I knew The Royals had heart. But what’s truly special is how the audience has connected with it — especially the younger generation discovering love stories in a new light. It reminds me of why I fell in love with cinema in the first place."

Global Star Nora Fatehi stated, “Being part of The Royals has been like stepping into a modern-day fairytale—only bolder, fiercer, and dripping in sequins, sass, and scandal. My character doesn’t just walk into a room, she owns it. Playing someone so unapologetically powerful has been a total thrill. The love pouring in has been overwhelming, and seeing the show trend in Netflix’s Global Non-English TV Top 10 is surreal. I’m beyond grateful to be part of something that’s redefining royalty and serving the kind of royal realness fans didn’t know they needed.”

Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy, known for their contemporary pop culture and spirited storytelling, stated,  “Ishita and I are not surprised, but yes we are overwhelmed with the love and acceptance that The Royals is getting in under a week of its release. To be number 3 on Netflix’s global top 10 shows chart and also be number 1 across 7 other countries as well as in the top 10 shows of 43 countries, to be number 1 on Apple Music’s top 10 Bollywood soundtracks and have your music trend across Spotify, Amazon Music and Instagram—that is massive! And it’s only been 5 days. The Royals has always been a special show for us at PNC, our first with the wonderful folks of Netflix—Monica, Tanya, Shikhaa, Utsab, and it only just got more special with global audiences accepting it and loving it!”
